Follow me, as I head out towards Karekare. Situated on the outskirts of the Waitakere Ranges, it is truly a beach lovers haven. Lets get this show on the road!
Karekare is only about 35 kilometers outside Auckland city, and so the driving time is fair. To get there, head onto Piha Road, where you can either take Lone Kauri Road or Karekare Road. A warning, Lone Kauri Road is very narrow and steep. Some of the corners are insanely sharp. Be safe and always keep to the left as much as possible, a friendly tapping the beepers just before cornering helps.
Karekare is relatively untouched. There are no shops or local amenities, only a public toilet nearby the beach. As people commercialize they take away an intrinsic element of what nature has to offer. To get to the sea (from carpark) takes another 15 minute walk. Places like these are becoming truly, more and more rare.
Just before reaching destination, you are greeted with the sight of Karekare falls to the right. Not the biggest of falls, but certainly commands a majestic presence that magically pulls you in. The track only takes 5 minutes, but in that short period of time, it offers viewers mini waterfalls, lush greens and peaceful streams. In other words, eye candy to photographers. Stay tuned for more...

Richard, my friend, these are absolutely breathtaking pics. Well done. Delna
