Oakley Creek Walkway

This is the Oakley Creek Walkway, also known as 'Te Auaunga' by the locals. Situated in Waterview, right off Great South Road. Its very close to the motorway, so although a scenic ground, be weary that at times there can be noise and congestion. Not the ideal picnic ground unfortunately....

My main gripe is that this place has so much to offer, picnic grounds, romantic walks, playgrounds but dare I say, it feels somewhat neglected. A place this like, that is so beautiful only for one to be greeted with the stench of sewage, is just horrid. My car was parked across the road, and the whole time I couldn't help but to think if it was safe or not.
I give you, the esplanade waterfall!
This is a popular spot for many young lovebirds as you can image. The time I was there, must have counted 7 couples canoodling, seven! Some of them clearly need to get a room.

Final thoughts, well what can I say. I've lived in Auckland for so long, and never realized that we have an amazing walkway that greets viewers and visitors with a stunning waterfall, right in our inner city. The surrounding neighborhood doesn't do this place justice. Perhaps thats why none of my inner circle of friends and families were aware of this spot. The movie Aladdin described the brilliant thief as 'diamond in the rough', I can think of no better phrase for this gem.
