Old Cement Works (part 1/2)

A trip up north to Warkworth would not be complete without visiting the infamous Old Cement Works. Established in the 1860's, decommissioned  in the early 1920's, whats left today is a structure that is barely standing, with warning signs on every corner of the premises.

Upon arriving, a graffitied  'Keep out, Danger' sign welcomed me. The whole complex was  fully fenced, but even the rails looked like its had a battering. Certain sections were only waist height which didn't take much to hop over, and other parts were clearly vandalized.

As I made my first round, I couldn't help but to feel a cold chill following me. Almost a haunting or spooky presence around the atmosphere. Not conceding to mind games, I snapped away. Like a sniper, I was standing over boulders for elevation, zooming over the fences, crawling under bunkers that were not within the barricades.

All the while, next to this annihilated heap of rubble, a calm and surreal river flows around it. I later realized that this was a common picnic ground and that locals come here for a dip. Its almost a Jekyll and Hyde scene. I think the bank is man-made, as there appears to be concrete mounts which can easily be seen through the crystal clear waters (more on that in part 2).
